Voodoo has the ability to summon necroplasmic residue left behind by the death of living beings and manifest them as ghost-like entities to do her bidding. The psychic manifestations she summons are transparent and float about like traditional ghosts. They also possess the ability to become tangible or intangible upon Voodoo's will.
She has an empathic link with the apparitions, feeling their pain if they are wounded. Fortunately, she can incorporate others into the empathic link she shares with her apparitions to ease the pain or experience the same sensory input her ghosts are experiencing. Her empathic and telepathic connection with apparitions also allows for her see what they see, speak and hear through the manifestations.
Due to her telepathic link, she can also communicate with the dead.
Ghosts of mutants still retain their powers in a limited capacity. Though, in order to direct the usage of these, Voodoo needs to raise a particular ghost (not just collect residue) and needs to focus on that specific dead person (instead of raising an entire army). Even then, it's a part of her powers she hasn't yet had the chance to use and explore.
PERSONALITY: Originally, Alison was outgoing, bubbly and easily excitable. She loved to entertain people and put on a show. Music was her first love.
From day one, Alison has never experienced a bout of stage fright. She enjoys being up in front of large groups with all eyes on her. It's great, because she doesn't get nervous about a lot of things, but she can come off as a bit of a showoff, which probably isn't palatable to a lot of people. She went through a stage (okay, most of her childhood) where she wouldn't speak... everything had to be sung. Luckily, she grew out of that fairly quickly.
Alison is a talented singer, actress, and dancer. She can play a number of musical instruments, including, but not limited to the guitar, piano, drums and saxophone.
She became a star at a very young age (11) and it quickly went to her head. Unfortunately, because she quickly became bossy and insufferable. Though she's always claimed that it was all rumors. It's not.
After her mutation surfaced at age 13, Alison developed a bit of a gothic edge. She started living the stereotype: dressing in all black, painting her nails black, occasionally streaking her hair with various colors, and frowning a lot. Her father insisted that she cover up her abilities and this was Alison's way of acting out. Plus, in a self-deprecating way, she felt like it was the only way to be true to the fact that she talked to dead people and raised ghosts from the dead. It's pretty misguided but she was 13 and needed a tangible way to embrace her powers. Otherwise, she would have ended up hating herself.
As it is, Alison isn't terribly happy to be a necromancer. In truth, she finds it rather creepy and isn't sure she'd really want people knowing about it anyway. Of course, after accidentally displaying her powers on stage everyone knew. And that only served to make Alison determined to be even bitchier.

Her publicity team tried to play it off like a stunt, of course, which didn't work. And soon people were screaming mutant. That was pretty much the end of that and she went into hiding. More at her father's request than anything considering all the death threats she started getting.
Xavier contacted her father and a deal was worked out. Of course, Alison's going to have to keep a low profile at the school, since no one knows it's for mutants.
